Seeraga or Jeeraga Samba rice is a medium grain white rice, which is well known for the health benefits such as high fibres and the nutrient values. This tasty, fragrant, and traditional Indian variety rice is grown around Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu. Seeraga samba rice is often used for making Biryani. However, unlike Basmati rice, this rice remains strong, it does not break easily even when mixed thoroughly. Since the grain resembles cumin seeds it is named as Seeraga, as Seeragam means cumin in Tamil.
