Primarily grown in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Sona Masoori is a medium-grain white rice. It is also lightweight, low in starch and aromatic which makes it perfect for use in Indian and Chinese dishes. Sona Masoori can be used in sweet and savoury dishes alike, but is particularly popular in biryani, sweet pongal, fried rice and idli. Since Sona Masoori contains less starch than Basmati rice, it is easier to digest and considered in Southern India to be the healthier choice. Advice: To get the better taste and look soak Sona Masoori rice in water for 10 minutes before cooking.
